Embroidery patches are usually complex to develop as these are generally store bought or pre-made. It is the reason why embroiderer avoids the implementation of a unique embroidery patch. In a variety of sizes and shapes, you can easily customize and create your embroidery patches by following certain industrial trade secrets that are discussed here.

Custom embroidery patches design is drafted on sketch pad or tracing paper in which all the details of embroidery stitches as well as type and color of embroidery threads are included. Throughout the embroidery pattern, any stitch changes are designated. Embroidery pre-set parameters are kept in mind during drafting the patch.

The embroidered frame of embroidery patch is developed. It is the key step in customizing the embroidery patch. Within the stitch selector of embroidery machine i.e. built-in stitches, an embroidery stitch is selected that can be embroidered into an extremely stiff stitch. A high stitch count should be given to the border stitch so that the embroidered patch can be encased. The thread often appears raised after its completion. Customization of embroidery patches is all about developing patches with asymmetrical shapes in a wide range of sizes. The creation of shapes as well as frames is challenging. So it will be best to start customization of an embroidery patch with a geometrical shape for e.g. square, rectangular, circular etc.

The draft is cut out for transferring the embroidery pattern on to the fabric. Then the fabric is cut out in the dimensions of the embroidery patch. A two-inch seam allowance is added all around your patch. Once the patch is embroidered completely, this added fabric will be cut away and removed. Such a fabric should be selected for custom embroidery patches that have the ability to bear high needle puncture marks. A high stitch count and density is seen in most embroidery patches. To avoid warping or puckering, a heavy weight fabric should be selected to create a full coverage embroidery patch.

Stabilizer should be attached to the fabric. Stabilizer is basically a separate sheet which stabilizes the fabric throughout the embroidery progression in order to avoid the fabric from shifting. A heavier weight stabilizer sheet is needed in case of lighter fabric and vice versa. A cut away or tear away stabilizer is best to be used in case of embroidery patches.

Fabric is hooped along with the stabilizer in the hoop attachment of custom embroidery patch machine. The fabric is kept tight to avoid the skipping, unevenness and breakage of embroidery patch stitches.

The custom patch is embroidered finally. It will be best if you embroider the motif or pattern of patch firstly. After it, the frame of embroidery patch border is embroidered. It ensures the professional appearance after the completion of embroidery patch customization. To the frame of the border, the extra seam allowance fabric is cut out as close as possible.
